Digital Content Specialist

WinSport owns and operates Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, one of the key legacy facilities from the 1988 Winter Olympics. They also operate the Bill Warren Training Centre at the Canmore Nordic Centre; and the Beckie Scott High Performance Training Centre on the Haig Glacier in Alberta. They provide programs and facilities that help people of all ages discover, develop and excel at sport and inspire and activate human potential through the spirit of sport.
I joined WinSport's Marketing and Communications Team as the Digital Content Specialist to assist in their new website build. We delivered engaging and informative website content that met user intent, promoted engagement and drove revenue through improved usability and online conversion.
I collaborated with stakeholders and different departments to understand their needs, goals, and objectives for the new website build. I translated client requirements and creative ideas to landing page content. I was the content lead for the Bill Warren Training Centre, Join Our Team, Volunteering, Meetings, Events and Catering, Hours of Operation, and Sponsorship pages. I interviewed subject matter experts (SMEs) and wrote SEO-friendly content. I also provided copywriting and editing mentorship to team members who had a range of communication backgrounds and skills.
Working with developers at Evans Hunt, I created, migrated and improved website content in the CMS, SilverStripe. This included page build, photo selection, proofreading for consistency of brand voice, eliminating grammatical errors, and weaving key messaging and search terms into content. I made sure the navigation was obvious and that the design components were consistent throughout the unique pages.
After the WinSport website was successfully launched, I was in charge of quality assurance (content review, image load, links and navigation testing, search review, etc.). I was also tasked with creating a SilverStripe Training Manual for departments that had not used the CMS before. The 21-page document contained visuals and step-by-step information on how to insert content, links, photos, pdfs, content blocks and pages in SilverStripe.
